I first met Roy Duquette during the summer of 2005. I entered his clinic looking for a job as a massage therapist; but by the time I left, I not only found the job I was looking for but also a lifelong friend and mentor.
When I met Roy his focus, his attentiveness, and his passion set him apart as a unique individual. I was immediately drawn to his ambition and goal of redefining the standards of the health and fitness field. However, it wasn‘t until I started the Duquette Strength Professional Development Program that I realized his true brilliance.
I would have never guessed two years after starting the program I would be the head therapist of a groundbreaking new health clinic, work with high profile clients on a regular basis, and write my first book series. But the biggest reward is the ability and confidence to advise patients on a wide range of topics relevant to their health.
The philosophy at the Duquette Strength clinical branch is an extension of Roy‘s personal training roots. His mission is to help individuals identify their current state of health, recognize the underlying causes that lead to that state of health, and provide them with the necessary tools to reach an optimal level of well-being. When I first started working with Roy, he made it very clear to me that we would not just treat physical symptoms or offer temporary relief. Instead, our ultimate goal would be to address the root cause of every problem through interaction, engagement and patient-education –– aspects so important, yet so grossly neglected within the conventional clinical model.
By introducing the Postural Reprogramming System (PRS) to all of my clients, I have witnessed, firsthand, some amazing physical, mental, and emotional transformations. My clients walk away from each session amazed by their new found ability to heal themselves using the natural reflexes of their own bodies. The PRS is so innovative and effective, that the results greatly exceed those of any other system I have studied or experienced up to date.
Similar to Yoga and Pilates, the PRS emphasizes a strong mind-body connection. However, unlike these other forms of exercise, the PRS is designed to conform to the needs of each individual –– not the other way around. The patient always comes first. The goal of the PRS is to master the self, not to master a certain pose or movement. An individual‘s baseline posture communicates which exercises need be prescribed and how they should be performed. Every exercise is taught and applied a different way, based on the requirements of the individual who will be performing them. The exercises themselves serve as sophisticated diagnostic tools, revealing areas of weakness which need to be isolated and trained further with complementary movements. Unlike other training methods, Roy‘s system is structured and safe, yet aggressive and purposeful, enabling clients to make considerable physical and neuromuscular gains within one or two sessions.
During each PRS session, fundamental movements are practiced and retained in order to create fluid movement while motor patterns that are the most challenging for the individual are isolated and strengthened. I‘ve learned that to effectively heal and train the body, conventional strengthening and stretching methods are not enough. Good daily habits must be developed and postural default settings need to be reset.
At the Duquette Strength Clinical Branch, the emphasis is placed on more than just the physical element, and the results speak for themselves. In less than two years since opening our doors, our clinic has changed the lives of countless individuals. We‘ve allowed people repeatedly let down by the medical system to finally experience relief for the first time in their lives. One comment that I hear repeatedly from patients is that our clinic is the only place they have received such devoted, individual attention along with such a broad insight into the state of their health.?To be a part of something so powerful is truly remarkable.
Roy has spent most of his life acquiring his knowledge-base and essentially mastering himself as a world-class, health and fitness professional. From his educational background to his teaching ability and practical experience, Roy represents the true meaning of "professional" when it comes to personal training. With the DS Professional Development Program, Roy has created an extensive apprenticeship program, turning conventional personal trainers into elite fitness professionals possessing distinctive qualifications, excellent practical skills, and proven results in their field.
I look forward to continuing my lifelong journey of self discovery while being a part of Duquette Strength.
